Wheeler Students, Staff & Community,
As we enter the first days of August, all signs lead to the beginning of another new year at Wheeler ISD. With the designation of District of Innovation, our students and staff will begin even sooner than normal. Our new staff will officially begin on Wednesday, August 9th with the rest of the staff reporting on Thursday, August 10th. We look forward with anticipation and excitement to the new challenges and accomplishments that a school year provides and our hope is to provide the best possible environment for your child’s education. Welcome back to all students, staff and faculty!
As we look forward to a new school year, I would like to recognize some of the accomplishments from a year ago. Wheeler ISD students garnered many outstanding accolades during the 2016-2017 year including a number of students advancing to regionals and even two earning the right to compete at the state level in literary events, athletic advancements with a bi-district championship in both football and boys’ basketball, and finally regional qualifiers in both tennis and track with a track participant earning a medal at the state meet. For the first time in twenty or more years, we had a student advance to the state solo contest in band. Along with those successes, we also experienced continued excellence in our ag science program with state qualifiers in judging contests as well as several high-placing show animals at major stock shows. We continued to lay the foundation for a robotics program with the elementary and junior high students. All the while, our student accountability with regards to state testing has improved and we look forward to the release of state accountability ratings that will be released soon.
I would like to recognize our summer staff that has been busy in making preparations for the upcoming year. As with most summers, the new coats of paint, refinishing of floors, deep cleaning and other preparations along the grounds are seldom recognized but most assuredly appreciated.
Finally, I would like to welcome our new teachers and staff. I believe that we have a great staff in place and they all share a love of children and vested interest in providing the best possible education to every child. I believe each new employee will complement our current staff, and I encourage each of you to take the opportunity to meet and to welcome our new employees and to build a foundation of communication that is so valuable when building positive school climate. We welcom all parents to take an active role in their child’s education and truly believe that student success is directly related to parental involvement.
Again, welcome back all and I look forward to an outstanding 2017-2018 year!
